Supporting mothers and fathers at risk of imprisonment and pre and post release from prison and their families in the community.

How can we help you and your family?

If you (or a family member) are at risk of imprisonment or on remand, we can help support you appropriately.

While you are in prison we can:
  • Help you prepare for your release
  • Help meet your particular support needs
When you are released we can for example:
  • Give you hands on support to manage life outside
  • Support you to access other services: drug agencies, counselling, employment, education and any other relevant services
  • Support you in meetings with other professionals, such as social workers and housing officers
  • Help you to fill in forms and manage correspondence
  • Support you to manage your child’s/children’s behaviour and meet their needs
  • Support you to set routines e.g. doing homework
  • We will also provide support to other members of your family who are involved with the child’s/children’s lives e.g. grandparents
For your children we can for example:
  • Meet your child/children and help them to talk about their worries
  • Help your child/children to access groups and activities
  • Support you to improve your child’s/children’s school attendance
  • Support you to attend children’s medical appointments
  • Provide a flexible service which aims to help you with your particular issues
  • Support you to attend Children’s Hearings
What can you expect from us?
  • All our staff are suitably qualified and trained to provide you with the best service possible.
  • We aim to respond quickly to requests for help.
  • We will talk with you about what kind of support you need and review it regularly with you.
  • We will also work with you until you no longer need the service. We will always discuss endings with you.
  • We will explain our confidentiality and information sharing policies with you.

Our service is for parents at risk of imprisonment or in prison who have children under 16. In the areas in which we work, we offer direct support in the prison and in the community. Otherwise we will signpost to other agencies throughout Scotland. Any professional or agency can refer you to Circle. You can also self-refer or speak directly to the Family Support Worker in the prison.
