Circle's Inter School Social Education Project (ISSEP) works with primary-aged children supported by volunteer mentors who are 5th/6th year students.

How can we help you and your family?

For Children we can:
  • Provide a consistent 1:1 mentor, one afternoon per week for the entire school year
  • Support homework and a positive approach to learning
  • Respond to individuals' different needs and abilities
  • Provide a range of fun activities including computers, digital photography, arts and crafts, cooking and board games; indoor as well as outdoor physical activities such as football
  • Accept referrals from local Pilton primary schools

“It’s fun and you get to get more confidence in yourself” (Pupil)

For Mentors we can:
  • Provide a first-class opportunity for volunteering, which is undertaken by some as part of accredited schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh
  • Increase your confidence and skills in working with young children
  • Develop your knowledge of children's development
  • Provide the chance to get to know some great children!

“I get a real buzz out of doing this ‘cos we get on really well” (Mentor)

What can you expect from us?
  • ISSEP staff are suitably qualified and trained to provide the best service possible
  • ISSEP mentors are carefully selected and matched to your child
  • If you have worries or concerns about your child, we can discuss these with you and help you get support if needed
  • We will explain our confidentiality and information sharing policies with you

Our service is for children and families in North Edinburgh. You can refer yourself or be referred by other agencies including schools.
